It’s no secret that this winter has been rough for a lot of people. I’m not usually too bothered by the cold; give any workout 10minutes and you’ll be warmed up; usually. This winter has been different, very cold, lots of snow and some ice. It’s also been really cold for a long time. I’ve actually have been having a really hard time with running outside with it being so cold. I can handle 32 even 25 degrees outside but when the temps are in the teens for below I just can not stay warm on my run. Forget riding a bike outside; I know some people are but I’m not one of them. Last Sunday it was 50 degrees so of course I was out on my road bike then to soak up the warmth while I could. Here’s a picture of a tree outside my house was weighed down by all the ice from last storm. I’m happy to report that it made it; no broken limbs!
I finally went to the running store and purchase a pair of trail running shoes (Brooks Cascadia 8) with the hope that they would give me more grip in the snowy conditions. I tried them last night and what a difference they made in the snow; nice to have more grip and less slip!
All this cold weather has me excited for the escape…
In a few more days I get to escape to Arizona for a nice two week training filled vacation. The short list of things to do is as followings swim outside, rent a road bike, run on some trails and just plain spend as much time as possible in the sunshine.
